In the overburdened emergency room of the urban Chicago teaching facility County General Hospital, a Level One Trauma Center, the difference between life and death rests on split-second decisions -- and the pressure, joy and guilt are often overwhelming. On staff are Dr. Abby Lockhart (series star MAURA TIERNEY), who made the professional transition from nurse to doctor and is making a serious effort to turn her personal life around; Dr. Gregory Pratt (series star MEKHI PHIFER), now an attending, whose checkered background won't stop haunting him; Dr. Tony Gates (series star JOHN STAMOS), an Iraq war veteran who made ends meet as a paramedic but is now a medical intern; Neela Rasgotra (series star PARMINDER NAGRA), a British-Indian surgical intern who arrived in Chicago after finishing her undergraduate degree in biophysics and molecular biology at Yale; Samantha Taggart (series star LINDA CARDELLINI), a nurse and spirited single mother; and Dr. Archie Morris (series star SCOTT GRIMES), the relatively new attending who finds that his stringent methods don't always agree with everyone in the emergency room.
In the 14th season premiere, Abby, Pratt and Morris try to figure out how to handle Moretti's (recurring guest star STANLEY TUCCI - "The Devil Wears Prada") strict new emergency room procedures. As injured people arrive from an antiwar rally, Gates frantically tries to find out what happened to Neela. Later, Gates takes matters into his own hands when he learns that a patient is responsible for the explosion at the rally. |
