波士頓塞爾特人季初孤注一擲，高價收購2004年常規賽MVP加納特及射手雷阿倫，加上球隊主力皮雅斯，形成霸氣十足的鐡三角陣容，只為重奪失落二十多年的NBA總冠軍寶座；如今他們已成為今季東岸冠軍，距離夢想只差一步，對手巧合地又是曾在85及87年總決賽中擊敗他們的洛杉磯湖人，於是當年經典的「黃綠大戰」，將於今年重現球迷眼前﹗
波士頓為今季常季賽成績最好的球隊，攻防實力無可置疑，不過進入季後賽，表現似乎未如理想，多次作客輸波，頭兩回合都要打足7場才能分勝負，令人一度懷疑他們的實力；幸好在東岸決賽中，他們重拾自信，以4比2擊敗活塞，繼1987年後再次打入總決賽，對手和當年一樣，是洛杉磯湖人。
湖人今年表現穩定，常規賽MVP高比充分發揮領袖本色，帶領球隊成為常規賽西岸霸主，加上季尾西班牙長人加素爾加盟，進入季後賽更加顯得得心應手，三回合都能在五場內擊敗對手，可說是「實力性」稱霸西岸。
兩隊在常規賽中兩次碰頭，全是波士頓勝出，不過季後賽絕對是另一個世界，到底湖人的攻勢，可否打破波士頓堅固的防守？而對於波士頓的隱憂，就是三位主將都年過三十，加上前兩圈賽事都要打足七場，所以體力會是最大的考試。
